Just for today, I will not worry
Just for today, I will let go of anger
Just for today, I will give thanks for my many blessings
Just for today, I will do my work honestly
Just for today, I will be kind to my neighbors and every living thing
~as translated from Mikao Usui, founder of the Usui Reiki Healing System

I was first introduced to the Reiki Ideals when I first started seeing a Reiki healer and shaman in the city of Chicago in 2010. During my first session, he gave me a notecard with Ho’Oponopono handwritten on it. When I met him for my second session, he gave me another notecard with the five phrases listed above written on them and suggested to me to reflect on them when I woke up in the morning every. At the time I didn’t know that it was associated with Reiki, but I recognized them as a simple formula to live a good life. I began to incorporate these ideals into my morning reflections and to share them with my yoga and Reiki students.

Reiki is not a religion or requires a belief system, but I have experienced it as a spirituality that honors the life force within all living things. Usui Sensei established these five ideals on how to create a peaceful life. These principles do not require a knowledge of Reiki to be effective. He developed the Reiki Ideals upon the belief that the wholeness of who we are, our spiritual, emotional and physical health, begins when we take responsibility for our own wellbeing.
