Within the history of Reiki there are 3 teachers that I owe a wealth of gratitude towards, for without them I wouldn’t have the wonderful presence of Reiki in my life. They are Usui Sensei, Dr. Hayashi and Mrs. Takata.
Dr. Chujiro Hayashi was a medical doctor, a Japanese naval officer and a family man.
Dr Hayashi was a student of Usui Sensei, whom he started studying with in 1925, just a year before Usui Sensei passed away. He is also the Reiki teacher of Mrs. Takata, who was the woman who brought Reiki to the United States. It is because of her that I am able to practice Reiki and bring its beautiful presence into my life.
While he was only a student of Usui for just a year, Dr. Hayashi greatly influenced the system of Usui Reiki and we see these changes today, such as:
- Having the recipient receive Reiki lying down rather than seated.
- Level 1 and 2 Reiki taught together.
- Developed the Hayashi Healing Guide, a comprehensive structure of Reiki hand positions for various ailments.
If you would like to know more about the history of Reiki, I teach the Levels 1&2 Reiki Immersion online and in the Chicago area. Please check my schedulefor upcoming classes. I’m also available for one-on-one private Reiki classes, email me at [email protected] for more information.
